Decisions and iterations

Calculate bevel geometry

I derived the 3.5:1 ratio and pitch angles for pinion and ring gear.

Model and integrate

I modeled the rear differential in SolidWorks and incorporated it into the team vehicle assembly.

Review system interfaces

The overall CAD assembly includes teammate-designed SLA front suspension, Hotchkiss rear suspension, and Ackerman rack-and-pinion steering.

Results and context

This coursework ended at design calculations and CAD integration. Building and driving the vehicle would be a separate stage.

Technical details

Differential geometry

The differential gear ratio is 3.5:1. Calculated pitch angles are 15.95° for the pinion and 74.05° for the ring gear.

Team CAD interfaces

I integrated the differential into the SolidWorks assembly with the team’s suspension and steering designs.
